Why could results be disappointing?
Beauty standards aren't universally the same for everyone. For example, on social platforms like r/Rateme subreddit or r/TrueRateMe, different uses are present. Results can be disappointing because the algorithm doesn't use the same standard as you, and the algorithm isn't perfect either, the average error is around 1.2 points.
Does the algorithm detect faces?
The algorithm doesn't need to. Think of it like a function optimized on a specific interval. The algorithm is made to work on images with faces. We do not specify its behaviour on other images, so results can be anything if the image doesn't contain a face.
Why do results vary for the same person?
The algorithm makes an estimation for one particular image of a face and its environment. It means like doing a wince, smiling, changing hairs or facial expression will affect results.
